Small Businesses in the Courts: Regulatory Battles and a Major BOI Reporting Win
Hello and welcome to the legislative, regulatory, and tax section.
My name is Amelia Mann, and I’m the legislative and tax liaison for CEO.
Today, we’re going to talk about how ongoing court cases and recent regulatory changes are affecting small businesses across the country. The NFIB Small Business Legal Center is currently involved in several cases involving regulatory costs, access to deferral courts, and protections for business and property owners. These cases could influence how small businesses deal with federal agencies, compliance requirements, and regulatory penalties. At the same time, the U.S. Department of the Treasury has finalized a rule exempting U.S. businesses from Beneficial Ownership Information (BOI) reporting requirements and requiring FinCEN to destroy previously collected ownership data. NFIB is also calling for Congress to permanently repeal the BOI mandate while advocating for more affordable and flexible healthcare options for small businesses and their employees.
